On Friday January 29th, Me Jean-Francois Arteau, was invited as a guest speaker by the Henry Jackson School of International Studies of the University of Washington to present to students from this university while they were on an immersion trip to Ottawa. He discussed challenges and issues in the Arctic and shared his expertise in this field accompanied by Donat Savoie, a well-known anthropologist for his work with the Inuit.
For more than three hours, the two experts discussed various topics: food security, education, traditional economy, sovereignty and governance in the Arctic.
Me Arteau mentioned that he particularly appreciated be in a position to answer questions from students who showed great interest for this field of research.
Next conference on the Arctic by Henry Jackson School of International Studies is scheduled for June in Seattle and Me Arteau will be there!
